Profile
Capital Partners for Education students attend private high schools in the Washington Metropolitan area. They receive scholarships from CPE for a portion of their tuition and are assigned an adult mentor when they begin the program. Additionally, students are able to take advantage of CPE’s enrichment programs and they are required to participate in community service activities.
Students apply to the program during the year before they are to enter high school—typically when they are in the 8th grade. CPE does not provide scholarships to students who are already enrolled in private high school.
CPE students have varied backgrounds. Typical students come from low income, one-parent homes. Most students attend public middle schools and without the CPE scholarship would continue in the public school systems. Students are awarded scholarships based upon income, need, merit, geographic location, and public school alternative.
Nationally, 50% of low-income, high school graduates attend college the following fall. 97% of CPE graduates have immediately gone on to attend more than 60 colleges and universities across the country upon their completion of high school.
Since the program’s inception, more than 100 students have graduated from DC area private high schools with the help of CPE. Many graduates continue to stay involved with CPE through participating in CPE events and advising current students about the college application process.
Capital Partners for Education congratulates all of the eighteen CPE students graduating in the Class of 2007. Below is a list of the colleges these students will be attending:
